Caladesi Publix Closes for Rebuild Dec. 31

The grocery store is closing for a much-needed rebuild. It is tentatively slated to reopen in fall 2012.

This story was originally published Dec. 31, 2011.

Caladesi Publix will close its doors before the new year, but when it reopens in fall 2012, it won’t be the same.

The 34,000-square-foot building, a corner fixture at the Curlew Road and Bayshore Boulevard strip mall, is being torn down. The doors will close at 7 p.m. Dec. 31.

The store will be rebuilt during 2012 to add 12,000 square feet and a pharmacy.

Publix spokesperson Shannon Patten said rebuilds such as this typically take 10 months. The other storefronts in the shopping center will remain open, and Patten said no employees would lose their jobs.
