Casa Tina Cinco de Mayo Street Fiesta 2013: What to Know

Casa Tina's is ready to transform downtown Dunedin into a Mexican fiesta for the Cinco de Mayo weekend. Here's what's to know before you go.

Part of Main Street closes this weekend for its 21st annual Cinco de Mayo street festival. And this year's celebration stretches two days — May 4 and 5 — for a weekend chock full of margaritas, Mexican food, mariachi bands and salsa dance lessons.

Beer, tequila and margarita tents will be set up outside on the block of Main Street closed between Pinellas Trail and Douglas Avenue.

Restaurateur Tina Avila invited a salsa dance school so participants can learn basic steps before the real festivities begin.

When (¿Cuando y Ahora?):

  • Street party from 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5
  • Restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Entertainment:

  • Orquesta Infinidad, 13-piece salsa band 
  • Lily Cortes, Latin jazz and mariachi singer
  • Ballet folklorico, dancers in traditional Mexican costumes
  • Corey McHugh, local acoustic guitarist
  • Salsa lessons with Simone Salsa Dance School
  • 22-foot tall paper maché puppet parade
  • Costume contest
  • Bike raffle

To Eat/Drink (¿Comer y beber?):

  • Drinks: Beer, tequila and margaritas tents
  • Food: Inside, the restaurant will serve from its festival dinner menu, which includes many of the regular appetizers, like guacamole, ceviche, nachos, quesadillas, dos frijoles dip, queso fundido, chile, soups and salads; and many of the regular entrees like burritos, tacos, flutes, tostadas, tamales, rellenos and moles. Prices range from $5-$20.

Parking/Transportation: 

  • Jolley Trolley is running free transportation, but may have a modified route using Milwaukee Avenue and Skinner Boulevard to divert from closed street downtown.
  • Bicycle racks are available at these locations.
  • Free Parking: (See also, attached map.) Florida Auto Exchange Stadium, Edgewater Park (the Dunedin Municipal Marina), across from the Dunedin Brewery, at Highland Avenue and Main Street (behind Pensare and The Living Room), along Milwaukee Avenue, near Skinner Boulevard, and Weaver Park.
