Mease Dunedin Hospital Gets Larger, Better Operating Rooms

Three new operating suites recently opened, better equipped with digital technology. It is part of a $19-million expansion and renovation project.

recently expanded its surgical center, according to a news release.

The surgical center has three new operating suites, which are double the size of previous operating rooms and they are technology integrated.

The new surgical operating suites are part of a $19-million, ongoing multi-phase expansion project. The 2008 plan renovates 33,000 square feet of the hospital’s main building and adds 4,000 square feet of new construction, the news release states.

The latest digital technology added to the three suites, notably completed during the hospital's 75th anniversary year, allows physicians to access patients' records and images on large HD monitors and it equips surgical lights with cameras to allow better viewing of surgical procedures. The technology also allows for more specialized equipment for complex orthopedic, spine and other procedures.

The latest renovations of the hospital’s surgical center also include a new pre-operative holding unit, a new operating room control desk and an anesthesia office and conference center.

By November, the hospital expects to open a fourth operating suite, endoscopy suite, new post-anesthesia care unit, an anesthesia room and new staff and physician lounge.

Mease Dunedin Hospital is a 143-bed facility that was established in 1937. It is a part of the BayCare Health System of 10 not-for-profit hospitals and outpatient buildings.

With our nations' urgent need to overhaul the health care system and each persons' need to deal withRead More increasing health care costs/decreasing quality of care, volunteering for SHINE could be part of the answer. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make postive changes for yourself and others. If, like me, you feel frustrated with the FL Legislature which seems to be working against us rather than for us; volunteering with organizations that educate the public in essential areas of concern can be an effective way to create grassroots changes. SHINE offers exceptional training and effectively updates it's volunteers regarding changes in the healthcare system. Sign up for thier training and you're sure to want to pass on what you learn to others.
