Nielsen Co. Moves Out of Dunedin Completely

Nielsen Co. announced last week that it would not renew its lease with the city.

As a result, 850 employees at the Virginia Street call center will move to Neilsen’s headquarters in Oldsmar this September.

“Nielsen's departure from Dunedin started around eight years ago, when the company began relocating its headquarters to Oldsmar. To do so, the company shifted 1,600 employees from several Pinellas locations to the new Oldsmar facility,” the St. Petersburg Times reports.

The former headquarters on Patricia Avenue is still vacant.

"At a Government Affairs Committee meeting over a year ago, held at the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, our guest speaker was an official from Nielsen Media Research. She spoke about the upcoming lease and their desire to remain in Dunedin," wrote on Patch. "Since then, was any effort made to keep them here? Any effort to make sure they were happy and satisfied? Were we lulled into complacency? Next is the Toronto Blue Jays. Their lease is coming up in less then four years. Are they being romanced by other communities?"

"Wake up Mr. or Mrs. Government....you say you are concerned about the future...if you do not entice companies like Nielsen to stay in our community, you are not in the real world," wrote on Patch.
