Will Tai Chi Society Buy Fenway Building?

The Tai Chi Society would hold retreats and workshops at the hotel, which has been vacant and needs to be refurbished.

A historic Dunedin building that is in foreclosure may be purchased by the Taoist Tai Chi Society of the United States of America.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the international organization is in negotiations with PNC Bank to buy the 1920s hotel at 453 Edgewater Dr.

If the deal goes through, the building would be redeveloped as a hotel and classroom space for people learning  tai chi, the Chinese art of exercise and deliberate movement.

The hotel, on more than 6 acres, would function as the U.S. base for the society, which has its headquarters in Toronto. The society also owns a building in Tallahassee for workshops.

The Fenway has been vacant since 2006, and city leaders see its re-development as vital to the future of downtown.

Owner George Rahdert, an attorney, is the building owner. He had hoped to turn the Fenway into a high-end restart, the Tampa Bay Times reports. But his plans fell through when the real estate market crashed. Previously, the Fenway houses Schiller International University.
