Mural Moments: Soul Mate Dogs

Mural Moments is a collection of the stories behind the paintings on Anna Hamilton's pet murals, written by a team: the pet owners themselves, Anna Hamilton, Tawny Castle and Dawn Carney.

“Lucky Girl was my soul mate dog. She brought more joy and fulfillment to my life in 5 and a half years than I could have ever dreamed.  I had pets before and each of them was special, but there was something different about Lucky Girl. She was my soul mate dog. She was my constant companion through all the good and bad times.  She licked my tears when I cried, always greeted me with pure happiness and snuggled with me at night.  She lived with me in quite a few different places, went on road trips and has even been on a couple cab rides.

"She loved going to the beach and in fact, we went on a trip to Honeymoon Island one day and discovered the City of Dunedin together.  It started raining when we got to the beach, so we decided to go on an adventure downtown. We ended up having coffee outside in the rain at a place called The Purple Moon. It was that day I knew that I had found home.  I moved to Dunedin a few months later.  Lucky Girl never made it with me on that move, but will forever be with me in my heart and in Dunedin memorialized on Anna Hamilton’s 'Dogedin' mural.”

In more ways than one, Lucky Girl is part of Murals for Mutts, first by leading Dawn to Dunedin and second, by being the reason that Dawn and Anna met through the "Dogedin" mural!

I wish I had met Lucky Girl, but feel as though I already know her through Dawn. I can read this story over and over again and, through Dawn and Lucky Girl, understood better the remarkable relationship I have with my own girl - Jessie - my own soul mate dog......no, make that soul mate! ~Melody Urso
