'Our True American Heroes Are Our Veterans'

Congressman Gus Bilirakis addressed the crowd at a Veterans Day ceremony at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens on Monday.

Congressman Gus Bilirakis, who was re-elected last week, participated in Curlew Hills Memory Gardens' 25th annual Veterans Day Ceremony Monday morning.

Bilirakis decided to attend the ceremony after finding out he did not need to be back in Washington, DC, until Tuesday. He made an inpromptu speech during the ceremony.

"We must never forget that our true American heroes are our veterans," Bilirakis told the audience, many of whom were veterans.

Col. Jerry F. Custin, USAF Retired, served as the master of ceremonies. Lt. Col. Thomas Castriota, USMC Retired, was special guest speaker. The Marine Corps League led the Presention of Colors and the Palm Harbor Fire Rescue Honor Guard placed the memorial wreath. Keenan Knopke, president and CEO of Curlew Hills Memory Gardens, welcomed participants and the audience.
