Things to Do Memorial Day Weekend in Dunedin

Pub crawls, concerts and prayer services: don't miss ways to celebrate Memorial Day weekend 2013 in Dunedin.

Sunset Concert at Weaver Park

  • When: Friday, May 24, starting at 7 p.m.
  • Where: Weaver Park
  • Why Go? Catch a concert and a sunset each Friday through May. This week's show is rock-funk-reggae jam band One Sun. Bring a chair, blanket and the family for an evening under the stars. (More info.)

A Pint of History: A Brief History of Beer

  • When: Friday, May 24, open house starts at 5 p.m.
  • Where: Dunedin Historical Museum
  • Why Go? Learn brewing techniques, practice toasts from around the world and celebrate the opening night of the newest exhibit at Dunedin Historical Museum. The exhibit celebrates Dunedin's craft brewers: Dunedin Brewery and 7venth Sun Brewing Co, as well as Dunedin House of Beer. (More info.)

Dunedin High Alumni Any-Year Pub Crawl

  • When: Saturday, May 25, starting around 6 p.m.
  • Where: Meets at Flanagan's Irish Pub between 6 and 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go? Organizers welcome all grads (provided they're at least 21 years old), hailing the annual event as more of a "friend-raiser" than a fundraiser. Just $5 gets participants three beverages, one for each stop on the crawl. Pub crawl includes Flanagan's, Dunedin Brewery and Chic-a-Boom Room/Blur. "We honor those that have passed away and celebrate positive living which was instilled in each of us as children fortunate enough to be raised in such a loving and accepting town," says organizer Suzanne Henslee. (More info.)

Cornhole Tournament

  • When: Monday, May 27, from 7 to 10 p.m.
  • Where: Rosie's Tavern
  • Why Go? $2 Michelob Ultra and Bud Light drafts to people of any skill level who sign up to play in the double-elimination, blind draw tournament (this Memorial Day Monday and every Monday). It's a great way to make new friends. (More info.)

Memorial Day Community Service

  • When: Monday, May 27, 10 a.m.
  • Where: Church of the Good Shepherd
  • Why Go? This universal Memorial Day prayer service is a Dunedin tradition, complete with Color Guard, a Dunedin Highland Middle School Pipe Band performance of patriotic hymns and songs, and guest speaker Jimmie E. Youngblood, U.S. Army (Ret.). Don't forget to stay for the reception after the service. (More info.)
