2013 Dunedin Celtic Music and Craft Beer Festival

The sounds of bagpipes and electric guitars will fill
Highlander Park in Dunedin on Saturday, November 23, as the Dunedin Celtic
Music and Craft Beer Festival returns for its fifteenth year.  Organizers say this year’s Festival is bigger
and better than ever, and will feature some of the most exciting names in
Celtic Rock music.  A fundraiser for the
three pipe bands of Dunedin, the annual Celtic Festival brings together
traditional and contemporary music, crafts, food, and some of the finest craft
beers the area has to offer.

This year’s entertainment features something for everyone,
including the traditional Celtic folk sounds of Tampa’s Juniper, plus the
return of longtime festival favorite, Seven Nations.  This year features the Festival debut of
three of the hottest names in Celtic Rock – The Fighting Jamesons, The
Killdares, and Celtica – Pipes Rock.

Originally from Austria, the internationally renowned Celtica
– Pipes Rock brings a unique sound of blazing bagpipes, mighty drums, and the
power of a rock band.  Performing the
songs of AC/DC, Deep Purple, Queen and Journey, along with putting their unique
twist on Celtic favorites,  Celtica –
Pipes Rock  has played shows throughout
Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Austria, The Netherlands and Slovenia, as
well as Canada and The United States.
The band wraps up its 2013 tour in Dunedin.

Formed in 1996, The Killdares have
come to be known as one of the hottest, most cutting edge bands in music today
– Celtic or otherwise.  World-class
musicians from all over the U.S., including world champion fiddler Roberta
Rast, they perform a brand new version of hard-driving, alternative Celtic rock
music.  Even die-hard fans of purely
traditional Celtic music have embraced the band’s powerful genre-bending sound.

The Fighting Jamesons deliver a traditional style of Celtic
music with an aggressive and energetic modern approach. Formed in 2009 in the
tradition of legendary Celtic acts such as Flogging Molly and the Pogues, the
Fighting Jamesons have quickly developed a strong national presence thanks to
their updated versions of classic Irish and American folk songs, as well as a
growing catalog of original tunes.  Since
releasing their self-titled debut album, they have stormed on to the live scene
as one of Celtic Rock’s most sought-after groups.
