Workshop: Urban Market Gardening and Maximizing Food Production though Seed Blocking
See how urban market gardening is happening in our area. Speaker Jim Kovaleski embodies the idea of sustainable living and is known for sharing his knowledge of growing produce to sell, share and trade. Attendees will also learn about seed blocks; an easier way to start seeds, reduce transplant shock and grow in volume.
Jim Kovaleski has been growing plants for 35 years, first in Minnesota and then in Florida. In summers he is a market gardener in Downeast Maine. During winters Jim operates Freedom House Farm, a local permaculture based urban market garden. He sells surplus produce at Sweetwater Community Organic Farm Sunday Market and through Dunedin Harvest Market Co-op. Saturday afternoons, his "Garden Gatherings" at Freedom House Farm offer tours, idea sharing and freshly gathered veggies.
