Island Earth Days 2013 at Honeymoon: Weekend Schedule

This two-day weekend eco-celebration highlights the natural attributes of Honeymoon and Caladesi island state parks.

Meet live animals, climb a rock wall or take a walk on the water.

Honeymoon Island State Park has many more eco-activities planned at this weekend's Island EarthDays celebration, including food and beer, craft vendors, live music, children's events and education exhibits that all showcase the island's natural attributes.

Participants can win prize drawings or bid on auction items throughout the two-day event.

Proceeds benefit Friends of the Island Parks, a non-profit that supports the needs of Honeymoon and Caladesi Island state parks. The organization is focusing major fundraising efforts on .

Here, we pulled together some of the quick vitals for folks planning to attend, according to the Island Earth Days website:

  • When: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 20 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 21
  • Where: Honeymoon Island State Park, in the shady picnic area near the wooded hiking trails.
  • Cost: Event is free to attend, with paid park admission ($8 a vehicle, for up to eight people); some of the activities include a fee
  • Children's Activities: face painting, story time, free craft projects, giant inflatable slide.
  • Other Attractions: food, beer, eco-friendly craft vendors, bungee jumping, rock wall climbing, Aqua Bubbles (float on a pool of water in an enclosed plastic bubble), dunk tank, make-and-take rain barrel workshop (online registration suggested), guided nature walks, live music, prize drawings, auctions
  • Bring: insect repellent, sunscreen, pets OK on 6-foot maximum leash,

  • 11:30 a.m. to noon(Storyteller) folk tales with Ross Tarr
  • Noon to 1 p.m. — (Live Animals) Patrick Bradley, animal trainer, with a live animal presentation "Birds of Boyd Hill"   
  • 1 to 1:30 p.m. (Storyteller) quirky talking animal stories with Ardis Schaaf  
  • 1:45 to 3:15 p.m.(Music) Time Bandits Band, rock 'n' roll
  • 2 to 3 p.m. — (Live Animals) meet some animals of Lowry Park Zoo, followed by photos and Q&A session 
  • 4 to 6 p.m.(Music) Ron and the Classics, California rock

Sunday*

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.(Live Animals) Tim Marshall, coordinator at Honeymoon Island's Rotary Centennial Nature Center, presents "Snakes n' Stuff"  
  • 12:45 to 2:30 pm(Music) Slickside Band, banjo-rock fusion
  • 3 to 3:30 p.m. (Storyteller) John Kelly, a Clearwater Marine Aquarium volunteer, presents the true story of Winter the Dolphin
  • 3 to 5 p.m.(Music) Mark Mann, acoustic and island music
  • 3:30 to 4 p.m. — (Storyteller) Karen Shaw, a voice-over talent, presents animal stories
  • 4 to 4:30 p.m.  (Storyteller) Maureen Belote shares an all-ages stories about animal and human nature
