Eagle Scout To Build Garden For Teacher Who Died of Brain Cancer

Kameron Madley is building a new butterfly garden for his late eighth-grade math teacher from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School as part of a his final Eagle Scout project in Boy Scout Troop 422.

Kameron Madley vividly remembers the day his math teacher left class early with a severe headache.

Charlotte Huff, once a teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, passed away of brain cancer later that summer as Kameron prepared to enter East Lake High School.

Now, a few years after her passing, Kameron, 17, is dedicating his Eagle Scout project to her memory.

On Aug. 10, starting at 9 a.m., a butterfly memory garden is being built on school grounds using funds he and Our Lady of Lourdes Boy Scout Troop 422 collected outside of Masses over the July 21 weekend.

Kameron, a rising senior at East Lake and longtime altar server at Our Lady of Lourdes, is continuing to accept donations. Check or monetary donations for the memory garden may be dropped off at Our Lady of Lourdes parish office.

"Kameron has chosen to honor her memory on the school grounds so that future OLL students will know that Mrs. Huff was a huge contributor to the classes that came before them," the July 21 parish bulletin explains.
