5 Things to Know Today: Tuesday, June 5

The time is NOW to register for local races, sign up for a camping trip on the outfield with the Dunedin Blue Jays or qualify for the county, state or federal elections!

1) Expect a hot and sticky day! We've got a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, it should be mostly sunny with some good wind gusts. Heat index values will make it feel like 97, according to the National Weather Service. It'll cool down to 77 tonight.

2) The lowest reported gas price in Dunedin is $3.24 (cash, regular) at the , 1001 Broadway, according to TampaGasPrices.com.

3) All candidates for state-, federal- and county-level positions have until noon on Friday to turn in their qualifying information (candidate oath, financial disclosure form and either pay the required qualifying fee or submit the required number of valid candidate petitions), according to Deborah Clark, supervisor of elections. This means we'll know for sure who we'll see on the ballot this November. (Note: The qualifying period for city-elected officials is July 30 through noon on Aug. 13). Stay tuned into Patch for coverage of these candidates.

4) The Dunedin Triathlon is still looking for volunteers for this Sunday! (.) Also, Registration for the Kiwanis Morton Plant Mease Midnight Run is OPEN. Sign up for a 10K, 5K or 1-mile run/walk along the Dunedin Causeway starting late July 3 and ending early July 4. Cost starts at $15 (for the 1-mile run) and goes up to $50 (for all three races). Register online.

5) Who wouldn't want to camp out with the Dunedin Blue Jays? Sign up in advance for Saturday's game, and for just $17, you can watch the Jays v. Threshers (6:30 p.m.), get a ballpark dinner, camp on the outfield grass, watch "The Rookie" on a big screen under the stars in centerfield, and enjoy a free breakfast in the morning.
