Young Hero Encourages All to Get CPR Certified

Two major non-profit organizations offer CPR/AED and First Aid certification locally.

When the city recognized Dunedin High School junior Max Kitchener in March for saving a tourist’s life using CPR, he publicly thanked God for the courage that was needed when the time arose.

Then he encouraged everyone to take a CPR class.

The 16-year-old student when he heard a man had collapsed near Victoria Drive, while working in the kitchen at in on Feb. 29. He was taught CPR through Dunedin High's Academy of Architectural Design & Building Technologies.

The man survived.

CPR and First Aid certification is available locally with the Florida West Red Cross and the Suncoast Safety Council. Both have classroom locations in Clearwater.

Most courses are scheduled in half-day increments and range from $55 to $110 for basic classes. Certification is good for two years. Pet first aid is also periodically available.

Classes are offered regularly through Red Cross. The next available CPR/AED and First Aid offering is April 13. Search by date and course, then register online. ($55 to $110)

The Suncoast Safety Council offers training monthly. The next available courses for CPR/AED and First Aid are April 18, May 3 and June 7. Register online. ($60)
