Former City Manager John Lawrence Dies

Lawrence, who had battled liver disease, served Dunedin for 21 years.

Dunedin's longest-serving city manager has died.

John Lawrence, 66, passed away Sunday, according to The Tampa Bay Times. He served as Dunedin's city manager for 21 years, retiring in 2005.

Lawrence went into cardiac arrest, the result of liver disease, which he had battled for three years, family members told The Times. Lawrence was waiting to have a liver transplant.

Lawrence died after being taken off of life support.

Lawrence had been living in Powder Springs, Ga., where he worked as a special projects coordinator for the city and also taught at a local university.

He died after he was taken off life support Sunday afternoon. He is survived by his wife, Jo Pamela, two sons and a granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Lawrence in Dunedin this spring.
