Newly Re-Carpeted Library Open for Business!

The new carpet is fabulous — we have lots going on for Halloween!

Week of Oct. 22

The new carpet is down and looks beautiful in the Dunedin Public Library!  We are looking forward to having our patrons back and business as usual starting on Saturday, Oct. 20.  The Friends’ Branch Library will go back to regular hours next week.

Don’t forget to come to Downtown Dunedin’s Trick or Treat on Friday, Oct. 26,  where Phyllis and Doreen will be handing out goodies and I think some spooky stories may be read!  Every year this event seems to be getting bigger and better — I love to see the little ones all costumed up walking up and down Main Street downtown!

Saturday night, our Dunedin Youth Volunteers will be joining Katherine, our teen librarian, at Honeymoon Island to celebrate their Halloween events.  We always provide a cauldron to tell stories around and we enjoy your stories as well as our own!  I will be at the Community Center as always to read little Halloween books to the toddlers.  I’ll have goodies to pass out and I’ll have my Youth Volunteer helpers as well.

The Youth Department is showing an '80s movie about guys who bust ghosts on Monday, Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.  We’ll show the second movie about guys who bust ghosts next week — don’t miss these classics, spooky and funny!

We are celebrating Lemony Snicket’s new book with a program on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.  Call to register (727-298-3080, Ext. 240) for “All the Wrong Questions” where we will hear an advanced snippet of Lemony’s new book, do a fun craft, play some games and have a lemony snack!

I will be leading a Bilingual Story Time on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. to celebrate The Day of the Dead.  I will be trying my best to read Spanish stories, but I could use some help from those of you who speak fluently.  We’ll be having some sweet treats and making a skeleton man craft – bring the whole family, but please register by calling 727-298-3080, Ext. 240.

If you frequent Story Times at the Library, please remember to dress in costume if you want on Thursday the 25 for Preschool Story Time with Ms. Jennifer, Monday the 29 for Baby and Me with Ms. Olivia, and Wednesday the 31 for Toddler Time with Ms. Flossie — so you can trick or treat around the Library with us at Story Time!

Remember hearing some "Spooky Stories to Read in the Dark?" (a personal favorite).  Pick out a ghost story and enjoy it this Halloween!

With our nations' urgent need to overhaul the health care system and each persons' need to deal withRead More increasing health care costs/decreasing quality of care, volunteering for SHINE could be part of the answer. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make postive changes for yourself and others. If, like me, you feel frustrated with the FL Legislature which seems to be working against us rather than for us; volunteering with organizations that educate the public in essential areas of concern can be an effective way to create grassroots changes. SHINE offers exceptional training and effectively updates it's volunteers regarding changes in the healthcare system. Sign up for thier training and you're sure to want to pass on what you learn to others.
