Summer Reading at the Library

What’s Going on at the Dunedin Public Library?

We are finishing up our hugely successful and busy Summer Reading Programs at the Dunedin Public Library this coming week.  The Youth Department will continue to accept reading logs for kids until August 14.  We have plenty prizes to award our readers and we are anxious to see who will be invited to our “Supercalifragilisticexpialidosious” Party – only the top twenty youth  readers of the summer will receive an invitation to this most sought after event!

Story times and Music Mash are taking a break until the week Pinellas County schools start back up – August 19 – so that we can prepare for a fun filled fall and winter schedule.  However, we do have some events in the near future to fill up those long summer days.

On Friday, July 26 from 2-4 PM we will be having a Make and Take Craft  time in our Reading Garden.  Come and enjoy an outside craft that is a keeper!  Then, Saturday, July 27 at 2PM bring your family to enjoy “Pirate Tales” with storyteller Katie Adams.  Hear about Pirates and their adventures on the sea!  On Sunday, July 28 in the Story Time room, we will have End of Summer Reading Crafts for all to enjoy.  No registration is necessary for these events.

The teens will have fun at Harry Potter’s Birthday Party on July 31 at 6PM.  Please register for this event.  As always, Ms Katherine’s program will be remarkable and  magical!  The summer programming is free at the Dunedin Public Library – sponsored and paid for by the Dunedin Friends of the Library.  We are most grateful for their generosity and giving spirit!

Teens – if you have not submitted an entry for the Pinellas Countywide Teen Publication, the Mosaic, please do so this week in the Youth Services Department at the Library.  The Mosaic will be distributed during Teen Read Week October 13-19, 2013.

Hundreds of children, teens and adults have participated in our Summer Reading Programs at the Library this summer.  We’ve hosted many special guests and had new programs, several of which will continue throughout the fall.  If you enjoyed Super Speed Stacking, it will continue to be held once a month on a Tuesday evening.  Our new Philip’s 3D Puzzle club is growing and will be continued once a month on a different Tuesday evening. We will still be hosting our ever popular LEGO Club on the first Wednesday of each month at 4PM.   Stop by the Youth Services Department to get a calendar, or go to our website at www.dunedingov.com and check on the Library’s page for details.

There will be some new programming for teens preparing for the SAT this fall.  Beginning in August, every Saturday at 2PM in the Story Time Room, there will be a portion of a new DVD SAT prep course shown.  No registration is necessary.

Also, Katherine will be hosting a Google Drive Program to teach kids and parents how to use the cloud.  No more worrying about where your thumb drive or cd is – you can have your information at your fingertips.  Come learn about Google Drive on  August 13 at 6PM.  Registration is required for this program.  Call us at 727-298-3080  X1732.  This program is for children and parents alike.

Enjoy these last lazy days of summer.  We are open seven days a week and have so much to offer you and your family!  Grab a book, audio book, or dvd.  Enjoy a puzzle.  Check out our e resources on the catalog.  It is so easy to download materials to your tablet or computer these days.  If you have questions, stop in and ask us at any of the desks in the Library. We’ll see you here!
