Volunteer as a Literacy Tutor

The Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to teaching adults, literacy skills, using individualized curricula to enhance their self-esteem, increase occupational and social opportunities, and to enrich lifestyles.

Make a positive difference in someone's life. Give the gift of literacy.
As a tutor, your goal would be to help the cause of literacy by providing one-to-one tutoring or small group tutoring of adults who need help with reading and writing, or to new speakers of English.

You will be given all the training you need! An initial four hour training workshop will be followed up with continued training after you are placed with a student. As a tutor, you must attend the workshop and follow-up training in order to be certified. No previous teaching experience is required.

Benefits: There is great satisfaction in giving to others; in helping resolve a limiting factor in your student’s life; in learning new skills in teaching and tutoring techniques; in obtaining a deeper understanding of different lifestyles and cultures; in making new friends and most of all…in having fun!
