Dunedin Man Tries to Arm Himself During Arrest

Clearwater Police were able to restrain the suspect after a brief struggle.

A Dunedin man tried to pull a gun on police during a drug investigation Thursday.

Timothy Renord Fergerson, 19, of Dunedin,  was arrested and charged with sale and possession of cocaine, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest with violence, carrying a concealed firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, criminal mischief and being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to police.

Undercover narcotics detectives investigating drug activity at 1391 S Martin Luther King Ave. in Clearwater were questioning Fergerson at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Clearwater police.

While officers talked with Fergerson, he kept taking his hands out of plain view, ignoring officers commands, according to police.

As Fergerson tried to put his hands in his pockets in an attempt to grab a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun. Officers grabbed his wrist and secured Fergerson but not after a brief struggle.

During the arrest Fergerson also told investigators that he also was involved in a shooting March 12 in front of a Stop and Shop food mart, according to police.

Fergerson got out of prison July 1, 2010 after spending nearly 17 months there for possession and sale of cocaine, according to Florida Department of Corrections records.
