Lifeguards Rescue Four Off Coast

The swimmers were swept away in the current off Honeymoon Island.

Four people were rescued from the water at shortly after noon today.

Two teenage girls, 12 and 14, were reportedly playing at Honeymoon Island for a family reunion, according to Pinellas County Sheriff’s Marine deputies. The girls were in the water near Honeymoon’s southern point when they were swept away in a current. Two male relatives attempted to rescue the girls but were also caught in the current, deputies reported.

A beachgoer alerted lifeguards, who reached the people in distress on a personal watercraft. They were all rescued, and no one was injured.
