Man Uses Railroad Spike to Beat Victims, Deputies Say

Jamie Christopher Cruz, 18, of Pinehurst Road, entered a Bass Boulevard apartment late Friday and repeatedly struck two male victims over the head with a railroad spike, deputies report.

A man armed with a railroad spike was arrested and charged with barging into a downtown apartment and assaulting two people late Friday, deputies report.

Jamie Christopher Cruz, 18, of Pinehurst Road, reportedly entered an apartment uninvited on the 1000 block of Bass Boulevard just before midnight Friday and repeatedly struck a male victim over the head with a railroad spike, according to Pinellas County Sheriff's records.

When another male inside the apartment attempted to help the victim, Cruz reportedly struck him on the head also, according to sheriff's records.

The first male victim, who lives at the residence, received lacerations to his scalp. Deputies report that he received medical treatment.

The victims told deputies the attack was unprovoked.

Cruz refused to speak to deputies about the attack. It is unknown if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Cruz is being held in Pinellas County Jail on $150,000 bond for a felony count of burglary during an assault.
