The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is looking to fill some crossing guard positions at various schools across the county.

School crossing guards must help children and other pedestrians cross streets at designated intersections before and after school.

  • Must remain alert at all times
  • Should have knowledge of basic traffic laws
  • Must be reliable and dependable
  • Must have good eyesight and hearing
  • Must submit to background check and polygraph test

Each school crossing guard attends a mandatory six-hour classroom training session and two-hours of field training, followed up with three days of field training at the guard's assigned post.

The School Crossing Guard Program began in 1972 as a volunteer program and has grown into an award-winning program with 130 crossing guards covering 184 school crossing posts for elementary, middle and one high school, including in Dunedin.
