One woman attempting to walk cross Alt US 19 in Palm Harbor is in critical condition after being struck late Saturday night, authorities report.

Amanda Chakos, 28, of New Middletown, OH, was westbound crossing in an unlit area along Alt US 19 north of Alderman Road around 11:53 p.m. April 27, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Chakos reportedly walked into the path of a 2012 Honda Pilot traveling southbound on Alt US 19 and was struck.

The impact threw Chakos into another pedestrian, Lori Baker, who was also injured.

Chakos was airlifted to St. Joseph's hospital in critical condition. Baker, 41, of Tarpon Springs was transported to Helen Ellis in stable condition.

Chakos was not in a crosswalk, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The driver of the vehicle, Equbal Kalani, 53, of Dunedin, was not injured. Kalani's Honda Pilot sustained $2,500 in damages, reports indicate.

The investigation is ongoing.
