SOLD: City Properties Go To Highest Bidder

The sale of two city properties were approved to go the highest bidder Thursday.

Two city properties are sold to the highest bidder.

The auction bids on foreclosed Dunedin lots, which had become property of Dunedin, were approved during the July 18 city commission meeting.

The combined highest bids stand to bring an added $118,000 to city coffers, although leaders have yet to decide on how those funds will be earmarked. That discussion is pending.

The city identified roughly 24 surplus properties in 2012 and received commission approval to get appraisals on the properties and prepare them to sell.

Highest bidders on the two properties are as follows:

641 Wood St.

Description: A vacant lot in the historic part of downtown Dunedin, close to the hospital, a substantial size single-family lot with an alleyway access and brick street, Matthew Campbell, assistant to the city manager, said.
  • Highest bidder: Thomas and Lynn Dow for $142,500
  • Second-choice bid: Darren Eyre and Amy Buch for $136,500

1630 Saint Catherine Dr.

Description: An abandoned single-family home with "historic settling issues." Has been a "significant blight" for the neighborhood for three years, Campbell said.
  • Highest bidder: Jim Purdue and Lisa B. Johnston for $22,500
  • Second-choice bid: Ernest R. Cline for $20,000
