Dunedin Charter Amendment 5: What a Yes Vote Means

Amendment 5: Reducing Time Frame to Act upon Initiative or Referendum Petition

The language on the ballot will look like this:

Shall the City Charter, pursuant to Ordinance 12-20, be amended to reduce the time frame in which the City Commission must repeal an ordinance or adopt an initiative ordinance or referendum petition from 150 days to 60 days?

This question is asking to change language in the city charter that would limit the amount of time city officials have to remove a new ordinance, and speeds up the time it takes to put new laws into effect, and address petitions from residents. As it stands, the city charter requires that the commission make a decision about these within 150 days, or roughly five months.

A "yes" vote would change the city charter language to require a decision within 60 days, or roughly two months.
