Lyndhurst, President Streets: Expect Disruptions for Drainage Work

Residents should expect months of road closures and traffic detours as crews add a drainage system to relieve chronic flooding issues.

A major, year-long storm drainage project will temporarily disrupt some south Dunedin neighborhoods starting this September.

Residents should expect the extensive project to cause road closures and traffic detours for months as crews work to relieve chronic flooding on President Street, Douglas Avenue and surrounding areas, officials say.

A new storm drainage system is being installed under President and Lyndhurst streets. Construction will begin at Lyndhurst and Edgewater Drive, next to the old Fenway Hotel, starting in mid-September and move east toward Milwaukee over a period of 10 to 12 months, officials estimate.

As crews move westward, residents on the west side of Douglas Avenue should expect detours, road closures and limited drive-up access to their homes for periods of up to six weeks at a time, officials say.

Public works and utilities officials are explaining the project details and addressing resident concerns during an open house Tuesday, July 16 at the Hale Senior Activity Center.
