Students Get Internet Safety Lesson from State Attorney

Our Lady of Lourdes School students got a lesson on Internet safety from State Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday, where AT&T unveiled a $3.5 million tax credit contribution to a statewide scholarship program used by many of its low-income students.

Monday was all about Internet safety and scholarships for the sixth graders who .

State Attorney General Pam Bondi paid a personal visit to the sixth graders for a lesson on how to protect their personal information, how to avoid online predators and how to recognize cyber-bullying, according to a news release.

The sixth graders use their Apple iPads to complete homework assignments that sometimes require the Internet. They are part of the school’s pilot iPad program.

The event was also an opportunity for AT&T Florida to announce a $3.5 million contribution to Step Up for Students, a statewide private school scholarship program used by many Our Lady of Lourdes students. Step Up for Students funds scholarships to low-income families of private-school students.

AT&T and other contributing corporations receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for its contribution The program was created by the Florida legislature in 2001.

Qualifying families may choose from about 1,200 private schools, or can use a transportation scholarship to attend an out-of-district public school, AT&T says.
