Casa Tina 'Lover's Wall' Benefits Dunedin School

Anna Hamilton and Tina Marie Avila have teamed up on a mural that pays tributes to lovers and gives to Dunedin Elementary School's art and music program.

Artist is at it again.

This time, Hamilton, of Skip's Dogedin wall fame, and downtown merchant Tina Marie Avila, teamed up on a "Lovers" mural on the south outer wall of  that they hope will raise funding for 's art and music program. 

Hamilton has been working on an 8-by-11-foot artistic representation of ancient Aztec folklore behind two of mountains "Popocatepetl and Itzaccihuatl" in Mexico.

According to legend, the mountains were shaped when a warrior rumored to be killed in battle returned home to find his true love, a princess, died from the grief of losing him. To this day, the princess can be seen "sleeping" in the mountain range and the warrior, an angry lava-spewing volcano, kneels over her.

As part of a Valentine's Day dinner promotion "Dia de los Novios" on Sunday and Tuesday (Feb. 14) from 5 to 10 p.m., the public may purchase a 6-by-6-inch tile for $25, that will be personalized and placed around Hamilton's mural.

Casa Tina also celebrates 20 years on Monday (Feb. 13) with a party, prizes and live entertainment. Avila and her husband, the original owner of Señor Frog’s restaurant in Mazatlan, Mexico, moved to Dunedin in 1991. .

Avila is an avid supporter of the community arts and local schools. The restaurant hosts the upcoming San Jose Night on March 12 (5 to 9 p.m.), a major fundraiser for arts programs, and Dunedin's , which kicked off in April 2011 and benefits local, organic gardening efforts.

Hamilton is the artist behind the Dogedin mural on the outside wall at Skip's Bar and other places downtown, which raised money for Dunedin Doggie Rescue. She also began a non-profit called , which has taken the concept fundraising dog-mural concept on the road to other cities over the past year.
