Dunedin Teacher is Outstanding Educator Finalist

Stephanie Whitaker, a fifth-grade teacher at Dunedin Elementary School, is one of six finalists for Pinellas County's prestigious award.

 

A Dunedin Elementary teacher is one of six finalists for a prestigious Pinellas County award, school officials announced Friday.

Fifth-grade teacher Stephanie Whitaker was selected from 20 semifinalists for the Outstanding Educator of the Year award. A three-member team of administrators and community business leaders observed classrooms and interviewed the teachers before selecting the final six.

Winners will be announced and honored at the Pinellas Education Foundation's "Evening of Excellence" event at Ruth Eckerd Hall on Feb 27.

The teachers were told they were finalists during a surprise visit to their respective schools Friday.

Other finalists are:

  • Holly Del Duca, Sandy Lane Elementary School
  • Sarah Painter, Eisenhower Elementary School
  • Chad Guess, Seminole Middle School
  • Kathryn Rennie, Tomlinson Adult Learning Center
  • Christie Vaughan, Nina Harris ESE Center
