Junior Does Whatever He Can For Falcons Team

Briggs Noun had no idea he'd be competing for the starting quarterback job this year.

When Briggs Noun transferred to Dunedin High from Palm Harbor this year, he expected to compete for an outside linebacker spot on the varsity football team. Little did he know that he would be competing for starting quarterback.

“Ever since flag football, my dad always taught me when a coach asks what position I play, to say, ‘Whatever position you want me for’,” Noun said.

Doing whatever the coaches ask of him is a recurring theme in Noun's life. He grew up playing with the Dunedin Jr Falcons and was a starting linebacker. One year, his team had a hard time stopping the run and the coach asked if Briggs would move up to nose tackle to help the team.

“I guess because I was one of the bigger kids on the team but I was willing to do it,” Noun said.

He did. His team went undefeated and won the championship.

“I was happy to sacrifice playing linebacker to help up front,” Noun said.

This year, Noun again walked into a team situation in which he was called to play another position.

The Falcons had to scrounge for a starting quarterback when anticipated senior starter attempted to transfer in the spring. Noun was more than happy to answer the call.

“He’s definitely improving but he’s still got a long way to go,” said.

Noun is learning the new Falcons playbook and the position itself, as he’s never played it at any level. However, to watch him play, one would never guess it.

“It’s very challenging,” Noun said. “I think the hardest thing is knowing when to just take your losses and not force anything, knowing what to do when the play breaks down.”

Starting for the Falcons at quarterback this year seems unlikely for Noun. Regardless, his philosophy remains intact.

“I want to do whatever helps the team. I’m willing to do anything to help the team win,” he said.

The Falcons should have him for two years.

The Falcons start the season against the Spongers in Tarpon Springs tonight (Sept. 2).
