Whiz Kid: A 'Relay' Munchkin Contributes to Team's Success

Lemonade stand raises money for her Relay for Life team.

Whiz Kid of the Week

  • Name and Age: Natalie Bowman, age 6
  • School:
  • Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Natalie made fresh, hand-squeezed lemonade, which she sold at her lemonade stand to raise money for her team.
  • Key to Awesomeness: This 6-year-old entrepreneur came up with a fundraising idea to help her Relay for Life team, Virginia Street Dermatology in Clearwater. About two months before the Dunedin Relay for Life at (May 6), Natalie made fresh, hand-squeezed lemonade, and sold it at a stand (along with some hot dogs) at her family's garage sale. "We sold a lot of lemonade," she said, dressed like a Munchkin from the "Wizard of Oz" to match the theme of her team's tent at the event. How much did she raise? She shrugged. "I guess ... $200, I guess," she said.

Her father Danny Bowman said it was more like $47.

The Virginia Street Dermatology office team, where her mother is a nurse practitioner, raised $13,150.
