Why is the Sister Celebratin Important to Dunedin?

Why the Sister Cities Celebration is important for Dunedin

The Sister Cities Celebration complements the unique nature of Dunedin.

The Celebration relates to the Scots heritage of our town.  That heritage includes first and foremost citizen involvement, as well as the team names in our schools, the rich variety of pipe bands, our relationship with Stirling, Scotland and the Dunedin Historical Museum.

The Historical Museum is a jewel in our city.   The exhibits and programs there are world-class and visitors and locals alike are often amazed when they stop in to see what the Museum has to offer.  As a major participant in Sister Cities, the Museum will be well-represented in the citizen delegation going to the Grand Celebration in Stirling next June.

BUT – and this is where “citizen involvement” hits a whole new level – did you know that up to 96 people can be part of the great doings in Stirling?   How many times do folks who are not diplomats, major politicians or heads of huge corporations get a chance to be part of an officially recognized international event?

In our previous posts, we have talked about the history of both Stirling and Dunedin – this is a chance to be PART of history.  Part of the delegation’s events will include a private tour of the Bannockburn Visitors’ Centre which give Disney a run for its money with interactive virtual exhibits that allow anyone to be part of the actual Battle of Bannockburn.

Other amenities for delegation members include a tour of St. Andrews (THE golf course and clubhouse) as well as side tours of other points of interest which can include anything and everything in the Edinburgh/Stirling area.

This is a proud opportunity for Dunedin and its citizens to be part of posterity as well as a great event.
