Athlete Spotlight: Senior Track and Field Athlete Also a Scholar

Meet a student athlete at Dunedin High School.

Name: Whitney Nielson

Sport: Track and field

Class: Senior

Position/Event: 4- by 800-meter relay, open 800-meter

Key to Awesomeness: Whitney is a specialist at 800-meter for track and field. She is also very involved at school. She is in NHS, National Spanish Honor Society and Interact Club.

When did you get started in track and field?

Well, my older sister was a sprinter and she wanted me to do something else. That’s how I got into doing the 800-meter.

What is your favorite thing about track and field?

My teammates and getting in shape.

What do you consider your career highlight?

Going to regionals as a freshman.

What is the most difficult thing about your sport?

Long practices in the sun.

What are your plans for college?

I want to attend either University of Florida or Florida State University.
