Blue Jays Baseball Set to Open With a Bang, Morrow on the Mound

After falling short in the Florida State Playoffs last season, the Blue Jays are hungry to start the 2011 season off right at 7 p.m.

With a fresh line-up (announced yesterday) and Toronto Blue Jays right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow on the mound, the Dunedin Blue Jays are set for today's home opener against the Clearwater Threshers.

Morrow, Toronto’s No. 2 pitcher, is on a 15-day rehab spot for forearm soreness. This is his only scheduled start with the Dunedin team.

Morrow and the Dunedin squad will be tested by a stingy Clearwater team, which features six of the organization's top 10 prospects and a core group of players who won the South Atlantic League championship just last season. All eyes will be on Clearwater’s Jonathon Singleton, the 2010 SAL Most Outstanding Major League Prospect.  Singleton, the eighth round pick in the 2009 draft, is ranked as the Phillies' No. 2 prospect, behind outfielder Domonic Brown.

Manager Clayton McCullough leads the 2011 Dunedin Blue Jays team. McCullough, a 30-year-old product of East Carolina University, begins his fifth season as a manager. He was the Cleveland Indians' 22nd round draft pick in 2002 and led the 2009 Lansing Lugnuts to the playoffs in his second season as the team's manager.

He helped lead Dunedin to the playoffs last year.
