Blue Jays President: 'We're Looking at Our Options'

The Blue Jays' president responds to reports that the team is close to inking a deal to move to Palm Beach Gardens.

Are the Dunedin Blue Jays taking flight from Dunedin?

Blue Jays president Paul Beeston told the Toronto Star this week that the team intends to honor its contract with Dunedin, which expires in 2017.

But he's unsure what the team will do after that. “We’re looking at our options for after (the lease in Dunedin expires),” Beeston told the Star on Friday. “And that’s one of the options.”

The Houston Chronicle reported last week that: "Barring an unforeseen setback, the Astros and Toronto Blue Jays will share a facility in Palm Beach Gardens in the same manner the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals share a facility in Jupiter, Fla."

According to the news report, it will take a couple of years for a stadium in Palm Beach Gardens to be built.

Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers suggested that the Blue Jays are not talking seriously with Dunedin about sticking around beyond their lease. The Blue Jays have been training in Dunedin since 1977.

“Instead of embracing the tradition and history it seems that they’re intent on going in a new direction,” he told the Star.
