D-Jays Score Early And Often In Blow-Out Win

Casey Lawrence wins convincingly in his first start.

On Sunday afternoon, the D-Jays (34-29) jumped all over Yankees starter Sean Black, scoring 10 runs in the first two innings on their way to a 10-5 victory.

D-Jays Casey Lawrence, 23, was the beneficiary of this offensive attack. The McSherrystown, Pa., native, picked up his first win, going six innings, allowing only two runs on two hits.

Lawrence was signed as a non-drafted free agent from Albright College in 2010. He had a 4-6 record in Lansing this year, with a .397 ERA.

Another product of the Lansing Lugnuts, Kevin Nolan, led the way at the plate. Nolan's 4-5 day, improved his overall D-Jays batting average to .412. More impressive for the Winthrop University alum, is his 12 hits in his last 24 at bats since returning to Dunedin on June 5.

Ten Jays batted in the first and again they batted around the order in the second.

The big blow was Kevin Ahrens' three-run homer, bringing him to six this the season. He also walked and singled on the day.

The Jays and Yankees (32-31) complete their three-game series Monday evening. First pitch at is scheduled for 7 p.m. Deck McGuire (4-3) is the probable starter for the D-Jays. He will face a very good lefty from the Yankees, Josh Romanski (5-4).
