D-Jays Win Play-Off Opener In 10 Innings

Bizarre play ends thrilling play-off opener as Jay win 4-3.

After loading the bases in each of the last three innings the Dunedin Blue Jays finally pushed home the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning.

The final score on Tuesday (September 6) was 4-3 and the Jays take a one game lead in the best of three series versus the Daytona Cubs.

It will certainly go down as one of the most bizarre finishes to an extra inning game. This would not be one of those infamous walk-offs that we so enjoy watching but more of an anti-climatic end to a great game.

With the bases full, Cubs catcher Chad Noble overthrew first basemen Justin Bour by ten feet while attempting to make a double play allowing Jon Talley to score from third.

The D-Jays loaded the bases in the eighth inning and came away with their third run tying the game at three. Again in the ninth the Jays loaded the bases with no one out but were unable to score.

Center-fielder Brad McElroy and short-stop Ryan Goins each hit solo homers to bring the D-Jays back from an early two run deficit.

On Deck: Game two and three (if needed) of the series will be played in Daytona. The games can be heard live on www.dunedinbluejays.com with play-by-play by Craig Durham.

The D-Jays will start eleven game winner Ryan Tepera who lead the team in innings pitched, compiling an ERA of 4.43.

If the D-Jays can get by Daytona then they will host game one of the Florida State League final series on Friday (September 9).

Need to Know: The Brad McElroy homer in the fifth inning was the first play-off run Dunedin had scored in twenty-three innings dating back to last year.

Two of the D-Jays pitchers in last years play-off loss to Tampa Yankees were Henderson Alvarez and Joel Carreno both of whom are pitching with the Toronto Blue Jays now.

The St. Lucie Mets took game one of the South Division series defeating the Bradenton Marauders 4-2 in Bradenton.
