Dunedin Blue Jays: Is This Goodbye?

Dunedin's mayor says he has received no indication from the Blue Jays that the team plans to stay beyond its contract, which expires in 2017.

Mayor Dave Eggers is telling staff to start preparing for "life after the Jays," since receiving no sign that the baseball team plans to stay in Dunedin, the Tampa Bay  Times is reporting.

Eggers explained in an email to city leaders that Blue Jays president Paul Beeston
confirmed that the team was scouting the Palm Beach Gardens location – site of a proposed shared stadium for the Jays and Houston Astros.

According to the Times, Eggers wrote:

"I got the distinct impression that if ‘things’ work out on the east coast, we, the residents and his fellow Canadians might not even get the opportunity to try and keep the Jays in their home of 36+ years.”

Eggers sent a copy of the email to Beeston in case he wanted to clear up any misunderstanding. There has been no reply.
