Dunedin Little League Eyes Championship

After a strong showing in pool play, seven teams from Dunedin Little League hope to raise the Largo Little League AAA Tournament Championship trophy this weekend.

Every March we wait to see which Cinderella story will emerge and how long it takes for a top contender to fall. Greater Dunedin Little Leaguers and players from all over the District 12 region, ages 8 to 11, showcase their skills in a tournament that pits them against some of the best little league teams in Pinellas County this week.

Little league teams faced off in pool play over the past two weeks, and when the smoke cleared, 16 teams emerged and moved on to the playoffs. Dunedin Little League performed extremely well, advancing seven of its eight teams to the playoff round. Six of the seven clubs won their respected divisions in pool play.

The playoff round consists of two divisions, blue and yellow. Four of Dunedin’s teams fall in the blue division, in which they hold the 1, 3, 4 and 5 seeds. In the yellow division they own the 2, 3 and 7 seeds.

Across the field, the Dunedin Braves will heat up a hometown rivalry when they take on the Dunedin Rays. At 8 p.m. the Dunedin Diamondbacks go heads up with a familiar foe, the Dunedin Reds, while the Dunedin Blue Jays look to tame the Largo Threshers.

The Greater Largo Little League Fields are located at 600 Lake Ave. NE. The semi-final games will be played on Saturday with the championship game to be held Sunday at 1 p.m.
