Falcons Digest: Baseball Defeats East Lake, Track Runs Well

A wrap-up of Dunedin High School sports.

Varsity Baseball

The Falcons varsity baseball team avenged its only loss and extended its winning streak to seven games against the East Lake High School Eagles Tuesday, March 15. The Falcons dismantled the Eagles 15-0.

Falcons senior Mike Clarkson pitched a no-hitter against East Lake and Dunedin's bats were a-swinging.

Falcons senior Mike Tipton had three hits, one was a homerun and another was a double. Senior Casey Turgeon also had a homerun. The team had 10 extra-base hits.

On Deck: The 11-1 Falcons will roll some of their winning momentum into a game against Countryside High School Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m.

Varsity Softball

The Lady Falcons took care of business on March 11 against Clearwater. The girls won 14-2, and second baseman Samantha Silver went five for five. The Lady Falcons pounded out 18 hits.

The Lady Falcons hit a wall against undefeated East Lake High School on Tuesday, March 15. The East Lake Eagles, ranked No. 10 in the nation, overpowered Dunedin ace Ashley Ehlers and scored 10 runs in five innings and kept the Falcons hit-less.

On Deck: The Lady Falcons play next Tuesday at Largo.

Boys Tennis

The Falcons defended their home court against Countryside High School on March 15, winning 4-3.

Up Next: The team plays next Tuesday at Seminole.

Girls Tennis

Countryside High School defeated Dunedin High 6-1 on Tuesday, March 15.

Up Next: They travel to Seminole next Tuesday.

Track and Field

The Dunedin High School Falcons hosted Osceola and Largo on March 16.

Osceola overwhelmed the competition, but several Falcons runners placed well in their individual events:

  • Dunedin shot putter Corey Francisco continued to improve his throws. He finished second in shot put with a 41-foot, three-inch throw, a personal best. He also won the disc throw with a 122-foot, 4-and-a-half-inch throw.
  • Jennifer Ryder finished second in the disc and third in shot put for the girls.
  • Danielle Jordan won the girls' 300-meter hurdles with a 50:53 time.
  • and Kitron Miles finished second and third, respectively, in the boys' 100-meter. Harriel also high jumped 6 feet, 2 inches, easily taking the field.
  • Zach Maciolek dominated the boys 1600-meter mile, finishing first in 4:51 minutes. 
  • The Dunedin boys won the 4-by-100-meter relay in 43:87. 
  • Alex Cole won the 400-meter in 52:53. 
  • Cameron Sellers and Ahmad Middleton took first and second in the boys 300-meter hurdles. Sellers also won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 11-and-a-half inches. 
  • continued her dominance in the girls 800-meter. She finished at 2:35 minutes, 10 seconds faster than the second-place runner. 
  • Kyle Reedy won the boys' 800 in 2:15 minutes.

The Falcons head into The George Steinbrenner Invitational at University of South Florida tomorrow, March 19.
