Falcons Football: Dunedin Pulls Off Overtime Win Against Dixie Hollins

The Falcons and Rebels went point for point, until Dunedin took final possession in the second overtime.

Falcons Quarterback Givanni Gonzalez's throw to wide receiver Janero Crankfield for a two-point conversion in overtime starts Dunedin's football season off with an exciting 42-41 win against the Dixie Hollins Rebels Friday.

The Dunedin Falcons and the Dixie Hollins Rebels spent four tightly-contested quarters going touchdown for touchdown under the lights in St. Petersburg, with neither team letting up on the other.

At the end of the fourth, the Falcons and Rebels were tied 28-28, triggering high school overtime rules. Each team would start possession at the 10-yard line for a chance to score and the option to kick or run for a two-point conversion.

Again, the Falcons and Rebels went point for point, until Dunedin took final possession in the second overtime, with Dixie Hollins up 41-34. Dunedin closed the gap 41-40, and left their kicker on the sidelines.

That's when Coach Denis Gillen let Gonzalez, who threw for 204 yards Friday, make the decision to throw to Crankfield for the bench-clearing conversion, according to the Tampa Bay Times
