Game Report: Jays Pitching Strong On The Road

Wes Etheridge leads a young Blue Jays pitching staff.

The Dunedin Blue Jays just completed six games of a seven-game road trip and are a respectable 4-2. They enter the finale Monday with two wins (out of three games) against the Brevard County Manatees and two wins and one loss against the league-leading Daytona Cubs

Pitching has certainly been the strength in these away games. Pitching starters have kept the games close, giving up three or less runs in all but one of the starts.

However, it has been the bull pen that has been most impressive, anchored by 26-year-old Wes Etheridge. The Irving, Calif. native has an interesting life story, let alone a baseball story, in which his last pitching was done in Maui, Hawaii. Prior to that he had taken an 18-month sabbatical from baseball. He has been sensational in a closing role for the Jays. Etheridge has yet to give up a run in 11 games and has six saves.
