Henderson Alvarez Sharp In His Second Start For D-Jays

Blue Jays bull pen allows 7 runs in 9-4 loss to Jupiter.

Henderson Alvarez did not dissappoint Jays fans on Saturday night (May 14).

Unfortunately, relievers following the young Venezuelan had an off night and allowed the Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins) to score 7 runs in the final three innings en route to a 9-4 victory.

Alvarez, was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a 16-year-old and made his pro debut in 2008 with the Gulf Coast Blue Jays. In 2009, he pitched at the next level for the Lansing Lugnuts and then moved up to the Florida State League with the Dunedin Blue Jays in 2010. He was selected to the FSL All-Star game as a 20-year-old.

Alvarez's fastball reaches 98 miles per hour and his curve ball comes in at 82. As one person put it, "If he can get a little wiggle in the fastball, the sky is the limit for this kid." Alvarez allowed only three hits and 2 runs over six complete innings on Saturday evening.

The D-Jays, down 7 entering the ninth, gave the crowd something to cheer about when both Brad Glenn and Jon Talley hit back to back solo home runs. Glen's homer was a monster over the left field trees.
