Improved Stadium Welcomes Fans for Jays Season April 7

Be ready for some 'sound' changes at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

With the end of Major League Baseball spring training, the Toronto Blue Jays head north, but that doesn't halt operations at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. It marks the start of the minor league Dunedin Jays' season, which begins April 7, and there are $1 million worth of changes you should know about if you're visiting for the first time since last season.

The stadium's biggest improvement is the installation of a $60,000 sound system. The system is barely noticeable to the eyes, because the mega speakers that sit atop the scoreboard are camouflaged.

Our new speaker system is much more powerful and much more clear. Our announcers and emcee are very clear and do not sound muffled. This has enhanced our fan experience tremendously,” said Dunedin Jays Assistant General Manager Janette Donoghue.

The concession area takes on the form of a major-league ballpark. Tiki huts as beverage depots and the Corona Extra Beach Bar give the concession area a Florida feel. It has two grill areas and three concession stands. The area under the tent is called the “Canadian Grill.” That is the spot to find the biggest variety of food and beverages in the stadium. Inside, patrons can enjoy the Thirst Inning Lounge, a room with big-screen, HD televisions, ample seating and, of course, a bar.

The old red railings, reminiscent of colors in the team’s former logo, were torn out and replaced with silver ones. A press box was added. It is two levels, provides a panoramic view of the field and even has an annex balcony for outdoor viewing.

“The stadium is very intimate. Even the top row is a good seat,” Donoghue said.
