Jays Bull Pen Gets Beached

Ryan Goins raises his batting average to .309 in 8-4 D-Jay loss.

The Dunedin Blue Jays' bullpen gave up three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings that paved the way for an 8-4 Cardinal win on Monday.

Outfielder Brad McElroy, 25, upped his batting average to .270 with a pair of singles in the first and second inning. After singling in the first, he stole second and scored on an A.J. Jimenez single. Then he knocked in outfielder Chris Hopkins in the second, giving the Jays a 3-1 lead.

Palm Beach would score twice off Jays All-Star starter Deck McGuire before unloading on the Jays bullpen.

Notes:

  • Henderson Alvarez represented the Toronto Blue Jays organization at the Futures All-Star game aired on ESPN on July 10. The former D-Jay now pitching in Double-A allowed one hit in one inning, as the U.S. defeated the World 6-4.
  • The last-place Gulf Coast Blue Jays' woes continued on Monday with a 6-3 loss to the Gulf coast Phillies. Chris Peters, a former Cincinnati BearCat, tripled and knocked in a run.
