Jays Knock Jupiter Ace From Mound In Sixth

Dunedin Blue Jays send nine men to the plate in the sixth and score 4 runs to defeat the Jupiter Hammerheads 6-4.

Monday evening the Dunedin Blue Jays faced one of the top pitchers in the Florida League State. Jose Alvarez entered the game with a 4-and-1 record and a 1.30 earned run average.

After Justin Jackson hit a lead off home run, the next six Jays went down swinging. Alvarez, who the Florida Marlins acquired from the Boston Red Sox in 2009, would continue his dominance of D-Jay hitters through five innings. However, the Jays hitters jumped on Alvarez with three consecutive singles to begin the sixth. With Brad Glenn and Jon Talley up next, Jupiter manager Ron Hassey made a pitching change.

The previous two games, Glenn and Talley hit back to back home-runs off Hammerhead pitching. The events were different on this night but the results were the same. Glenn walked, and with the bases loaded, Jon Talley cleared the bases with a double ripped down the first base line.

In his last five games, Talley has acumulated 7 hits, 2 home runs and 5 RBIs. The 22-year-old Californian joined the Blue Jays organization five years ago and is in his second season with D-Jays.

The Jays improve their overall record to 20-18 and in their past 10 games have the best record in the league (7-3). The D-Jays trail the North Division, leading the Daytona Cubs by seven games and only four back of the Clearwater Threshers. Remember, this team opened the season with only two wins in their first 11 games.
