McGowan Completes His Rehab In Dunedin

D-Jays crush Manatees 9-3, share first place with Yankees.

The Dunedin Jays took two games out of three in Brevard County with a 9-3 victory on Friday (Aug. 5).

The D-Jays starting pitchers did not permit a single run to the Manatees in 16 innings.

Dustin McGowan, in what is rumored to be his last rehab appearance for the D-Jays before heading to Double-A New Hampshire, lasted three scoreless innings, allowing a double, a single and a walk. He struck out four.

The 29-year-old from Savannah, Ga., has not pitched in the major leagues since 2008, but as Major League reporter Gregor Chisholm, the Toronto Blue Jays beat writer, pointed out to Craig Durham, D-Jays play-by-play announcer, the interest is still amazingly hot over him in Toronto.

Asher Wojciechowski, who just returned from the disabled list, worked three scoreless innings to pick up his sixth win of the season.

The Brevard County Manatees will be glad to have D-Jays outfielder Brad Glenn leaving town. The slugger had an outstanding three game series. He pounded out seven hits, of which two were home runs and two were doubles. The 24-year-old Arizona alum knocked in five runs and scored four himself.

On Deck: The D-Jays travel to Tampa on today (Aug. 6), as the top two teams in the North Division square off for a crucial three-game series. First pitch Saturday in Tampa is 6 p.m.

The probable pitcher for the D-Jays is Nestor Molina.

Notes: The Gulf Coast Blue Jays scored four in the sixth and four in the seventh on their way to crushing the Gulf Coast Pirates 13-5.

  • The team had plenty of offensive highlights, especially those of middle infielder Andrew Burns. Burns is a recent signing from the 2011 Draft. In his short, professional career (four games), he is batting .667, which included a 3-5 day on Friday. The Colorado native played two seasons at the University of Kentucky before transferring to Arizona for his junior year.
  • Mississauga, Ontario native Dalton Pompey went 3-6. One of those was his fourth homer of the season.
