Ochinko Homers Twice In D-Jays Loss

The light-hitting Brevard County Manatees pound out 15 hits in defeating the Jays 10-8.

The Brevard County Manatees out-slugged the Dunedin Blue Jays on Monday, defeating them 10-8.

You would  be hard pressed to convince D-Jays pitchers Asher Wojciechowski, Frank Gailey and Dumas Garcia that the Manatees have the worst batting average in the Florida State League. The Manatees hit two home runs as part of their 15-hit barrage.

This outburst of hits and runs is the second game in a row at that the Manatees have demonstrated this kind of hitting attack. On June 10, the Manatees scored eight runs on 13 hits and two home runs in a 10-8 Jays victory.

The D-Jays came out of the gates strong, scoring four in the first. Sean Ochinko and Brad Glenn hit back-to-back home runs for the third time this season.

Ochinko would hit his second of the night, a three-run blast in the seventh, but that would not be enough. The Toronto Blue Jays' 11th-round pick in 2009 has now hit nine home runs, of which all except one have been in June.

The Manatees (27-41) and Jays (37-31) meet again on Tuesday for an 11 a.m. first pitch. The early start is part of Camp Day at the stadium.

Notes: The Gulf Coast League kicked off the 2011 season Monday. The Pirates defeated the Jays 5-3 at the Solon Field Complex. Jorge Vega-Rosardo homered deep over the left field fence for the Jays. Rosardo was chosen by the Jays in the 2011 First Year Player Draft in the 28th round from Miami-Dade South College.
