Plot Thickens In D-Jays Tight Playoff Race

D-Jays enter final series with a slim one-and-a-half-game margin over the Clearwater Threshers tonight. Ochinko's grand slam led Jays over Tigers on Wednesday.

The Florida State League could not have written a more exciting script.

Wednesday's North Division play only thickened the plot.

The first-place Dunedin Blue Jays rebounded from a with a 7-2 win against the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

The Jays were down 2-1 entering the fifth inning with only a Brad Glenn homer registered on the scoreboard. They'd loaded the bases when Sean Ochinko stepped to the plate and slammed one over the left field fence. It was the the 23-year-old's 16th of the season. The grand slam RBIs give him 78 on the year. 

Veteran pitcher Vince Bongiovanni gave the D-Jays the solid start they needed. The 6-foot-5-inch righthander allowed only two runs on four hits over six complete innings.

Meanwhile, the Clearwater Threshers split a doubleheader Wednesday in Brevard County. The Jays victory extended their first-place lead over Clearwater to only a game and a half.

Rivals Dunedin and Clearwater face each other today (Sept. 1) in the final weekend of the season with a playoff spot on the line.

The four-game Dunedin-Clearwater grand finale series kicks off at 7 p.m.

On Deck: Games No. 2 and 3 will also be played at . The two teams then shift to Bright House Field to close out the regular season.

Notes: The Toronto Blue Jays announced that D-Jay pitcher Aaron Loup will attend the prestigious Arizona Fall League. The lefthanded reliever will join notable future Jays shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and centerfielder Anthony Gose.
