Shortstop Ryan Goins Leads D-Jays To Consecutive Wins
Asher Wojciechowski pitches seven shutout innings as Jays gain split in St. Lucie.
Ryan Goins has never been considered as a serious threat to be a Toronto Blue Jay, but that may be changing.
The 23-year-old Round Rock, Texas native has improved his batting average since the beginning of May to an impressive .293 (from .225). In the most recent road trip, in which the D-Jays split with the St. Lucie Mets, Goins went seven hits for 13 at bats, including two doubles. The two doubles give him 15 on the season, tying him for second in the Florida State League.
Goins was drafted in the fourth round in 2009. The following year, the Toronto Blue Jays signed Cuban shortstop phenom, Adeiny Hechavarria, for $10 million over four years.

Hechavarria played half the season for the D-Jays last year (2010) and is expected to be the Toronto Blue Jays' shortstop of the future.
If Goins can continue to produce at the plate and play a steady shortstop, Toronto may have a nice problem on their hands.

Asher Wojciechowski rebounded from a horrible outing last Tuesday against Charlotte. His outstanding two-hit shutout over seven complete innings helped the Jays to a 12-1 win on Sunday (May 29).
The D-Jays (28-23) return to action on Tuesday (May 31), to host the Palm Beach Cardinals (20-30). Scheduled pitcher is Nestor Molina, who is presently the hottest D-Jay starter.
The Jays have fallen 10 games behind the league-leading Daytona Cubs, who are running away with the FSL North Division. Daytona is riding an 11-game winning streak.
